Two of the best Touring Car drivers in the international competition – Gabriele Tarquini and Pepe Oriola – are fascinated by the concept of the upcoming ETCR.
Tarquini, who was crowned the first ever champion in the new WTCR, has just been confirmed as one of the Hyundai drivers for the next season of the FIA World Touring Car Cup.
“In spite of my age, I had an opportunity to move to another brand. I was flattered but declined. The relationship with Hyundai was bound to continue. I’m proud to be a member of the Hyundai racing family and will do my best to help them to win again. I dream this will mean I will be involved in the ETCR programme too. I am fascinated by this new project and if they ask, I’m ready! You know, at my age every new challenge is a boost for the motivations…” the Italian said.
Oriola, a race winner and title contender in WTCR, echoed: “I want to fight to become world champion and I’m already working to continue with CUPRA in 2019. I also think that the CUPRA e-Racer is going to be a talking point in the new ETCR. I hope to have the chance to test it next year. Competing in an electrical championship? I’m open to any possibilities in the world of Touring Car and, of course, with electrical powertrains.”
